The day after I arrived in NYC for the summer, my family friends (whom I love way too much) took me out to dinner at ABC Kitchen, a Jean-Georges restaurant by Union Square. Their concept is high-end, organic and locally grown ingredients, which ends up being a fresh, delicious assortment of classic and fusion dishes to make for a wonderful meal.
The food was all fantastic, great, quality, fresh, and super interesting. Nothing I had was cliché or boring.
We had just been talking about the Crab Toast with Lemon Aioli when the waiter came up to us and, I kid you not, said, “Unfortunately, we are out of one dish…the Crab Toast with Lemon Aioli…” He looked genuinely apologetic, and I was pretty genuinely depressed, but that just gives us another excuse to visit again!!
Also, it might have been exactly where we were sitting, but we were all essentially screaming the whole night because we could barely hear ourselves speak – only because the place was so lively and busy, and we happened to be sitting in a little corner that was very accommodating for acoustics. This was my type of restaurant though because people usually have to tell me to take it down a notch in terms of volume.
The restaurant is actually a part of the ABC stores, which is a chain of home deco and design products. This explains why the interior was so interestingly and appropriately decorated, adding a modern yet organic feel to the environment and experience.
Salmon Tartare Toast with Creme Fraiche and Sesame Garlic Crumbs I forgot the name of these two…help a homie out…really good though!! Line caught Tuna Sashimi marinated with Ginger and Mint Roast Carrot and Avocado Salad. Crunchy Seeds, Sour Cream and Citrus – you must get this. I usually hate cooked carrots, but the carrots didn’t taste like carrotsKasha and Bowtie Pasta with Veal Meatballs – I will personally make sure to slap you if you judge me for eating veal because I guarantee you’ve done worse things in life – on another note, the pasta was cooked perfectly (al dente~) not too soft and not too raw – just chewy enough Fried Organic Chicken, Rainbow Chard and Hot Sauce Butter – organic makes it healthy, right?? My favorite flavor these days has been Salted Caramel anything, and lo and behold, there was a Sundae on the dessert menu which entailed Salted Caramel Ice Cream with Candied Peanuts and Popcorn, Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sauce. The Candied Popcorn with the Salted Caramel created the most magical flavorgasm ever. Highly recommend a visit!!
